Tom Oberheim Two Voice Pro Excerpt by Gary Chang

video upload by GSF AGENCY

"Directed by Chris Morgan ... http://www.darkenergymedia.com
Produced by Geoff Farr / GSF Agency ... http://www.gsfagency.com

While the New TVS Pro is a 'reissue' of the TVS with the classic SEM sound of the '70s, a few details have transformed this instrument. Once destined to sit atop a Hammond B-3 or in a multi-keyboard setup, the new TVS is at home in any modular system, providing handy pitch and timing reference, and shining as an excellent compact master keyboard for playing polyphonic synths without having to fire up the DAW.

In this video, the Tom Oberheim TVS Pro plays sequence #1, while supplying clock to the modular systems' sequencers. External sounds include a Karp hi hat; Wiard kick, Mayhem and Pedal tone; a Tonestar grand casa; MiniMod Bass; Elements chunk; Serge funk; Serge and Nebulae suspense and 2 Roland MKS 80 Super Jupiters pads, played from TVS Pro Keyboard with Local OFF.

The music in the video is performed live, without overdubbing or editing. Special thanks to Anthony Baldino for sprucing up the mix before the shoot.

-Gary Chang"

UDO Audio Super 6 Demos

UDO Audio Super 6 - Sinister Six video by GSF AGENCY

"This piece of music, including percussion and sound effects, is done entirely with UDO Audio's Super 6 binaural analog-hybrid synthesizer. I spent about a month and a half developing sounds for the Super 6, after which I massively multitracked the synthesizer into Mark Of The Unicorn's Digital Performer over several weeks time. At first, I tried out a pseudo orchestral intro to see how well my sounds worked together, and then took a joyride through various moods and musical styles. This Sinister Six piece is an imaginary cinematic journey, heavily influenced by the pioneers of synthesis with a few nods to world music; it showcases the broad stereo binaural effects and the range of the instrument's capabilities.

"A Macbeth Studio Systems M3x and its box. I bought this new in October 2003 via GSF Agency and, in one of the more regrettable aspects of my life, I stopped using it and all my other gear (besides my guitar) when I moved in December 2004. It's been sitting in its box ever since, until I pulled it out today.

I've played around with all of the knobs and switches on front except for the external input and aux controller route. Everything I've tried has worked fine. I've not tested the back panel ports besides using the hi out and the MIDI IN, and the only menu functionality I've used was the hold."

KNIFONIUM SteampunkSpaceSpies - 25 Tube Monophonic Synthesizer

Published on Apr 5, 2016 darkenergymedia

"25 tube monophonic synthesizer.

This piece of music is done entirely (including percussion and sound effects) with the Knifonium Tube synthesizer, made by Jonte Knif. For purchase information contact Geoff Farr at GSF Agency (http://www.gsfagency.com).

---

This was recorded and edited using MOTU's Digital Performer. I started working on this back in November, capturing some wild performances, effects, and percussion sounds.
Native Instruments Kontakt was used for building up and temping the tracks, then many were augmented or replaced by doing repeated multitrack passes directly from the Knifonium.
A pair of Lexicon MPX500s were used for pingpong delays during tracking on a few parts, but all other FX were within Digital Performer.
Final mix was captured to an Apogee Ensemble.

I felt that there were plenty of demos of the instrument in its raw state (not multi tracked) so I had to see how far I could take this. The tune had been hanging in my brain for about 3 weeks, and the Knifonium seemed like a very Steampunk Sci-Fi instrument, so this is what I had to do...
Enjoy!

Tom Oberheim Press Release - Pricing & SEM-PROs Signed by Tom Oberheim

"Legendary Synthesizer Expander Module Returns to Production at the Hands of its Inventor

Moraga, California (Nov. 22, 2010) – More than thirty five years after it first appeared on the musical landscape, the unique voice of the Tom Oberheim Synthesizer Expander Module (SEM) will sing again. Tom Oberheim, regarded as one of the world’s most influential electronic musical instrument designers, is reintroducing the SEM in three configurations, each of which is true to the analog design characteristics that were at the heart of the original device.

Musicians familiar with the layout of the original SEM will feel right at home operating the new units; with only minor hardware alterations, due to non-availability of certain components, the instruments are virtually the same as the first units that shipped out the factory door. The three SEMs include a model with a thirty-three point “CV-Gate” patch panel, one with MIDI-to-CV conversion circuitry, and the newest addition to the line, an SEM-PRO model incorporating twenty-one patch points along the top rail in addition to MIDI-to-CV capabilities.

Tom Oberheim points to a decline in the uniqueness in the sonic characteristics of commercially available synthesizers over the years as one of the reasons he decided to undertake the resurrection of the SEM. 'What happened in the eighties and nineties is that synthesizers became so perfected that they just lost their ‘edge,' Tom says. 'The old stuff has some real individualistic qualities.'

Tom will build these units by hand at his shop in California. He plans to personally sign each of the SEM - PRO units.

Prices are $899 for the SEM Patch Panel and MIDI-to-CV models and $1,199 for the SEM-PRO. Tom has teamed up with GSF Agency (www.gsfagency.com) to handle sales in the United States. For more information on the SEM line go to www.tomoberheim.com; the units may be purchased by contacting Geoff Farr of GSF Agency at 310-995-0100, or by email at geoff@gsfagency.com."

Tom Oberheim SEM Pro!

"Geoff Farr of GSF Agency has taken over exclusive distribution of Tom Oberheim's new SEM product line. There is a new one, the SEM Pro, shown here playing beautifully with a Moog CP-251. The Pro combines the best features of both the MIDI and patchable versions, and includes Tom's personal signature on the front.
I had a lot of fun messing around with this prototype during testing, and I can honestly say that this pair is a killer combo!
